TMJ/TMJD
There are many pathologies of the TMJ. These can include ligament injuries, displaced or moving disks, perforations, and degeneration of the joint. In addition muscle hyperactivity and forward head posturing can exacerbate TMD symptoms. Proper diagnosis and a team approach to treatment is often necessary. We frequently work with specialists including pain management, chiropractors and physical therapists to provide our patients the best care possible. Our office uses the Piper protocol to classify the condition of joints. Signs and symptoms of TMJ disorders may include:
- Pain or tenderness of your jaw
- Aching pain in and around your ear
- Difficulty chewing or discomfort while chewing
- Aching facial pain
- Locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth
- Headache
- Uncomfortable bite
- An uneven bite, because one or more teeth are making premature contact
|
Our Mission:
Our mission is to help see the physiological roadblocks to health and participate in you overcoming them.

How we do this:
1) Joint Vibration Analysis (JVA)
- Takes less than 3 minutes to complete
- Non-invasive
- Accurate
- Objective
- American Dental Association Accepted

Joint Vibration Analysis is a fast, non invasive recording of vibrations that occur in the TMJ during movement or loading. It operates on a very simple principle of motion and friction. |
Each TMJ pathology has a unique vibration signature. |

2) Electromyography
|
|
8 Muscle Electormygraphy is used to record resting muscle activity, swallowing, clenching and muscle recruitment.
EMG is important because:
1) we use it to quantify muscle activity at rest. .
2) it allows us to obtain the symmetry, synergy and timing of muscle activity. |

3) Electrognathography
|
|
Jaw tracking allows us to track deviations and deflections of the jaw in a 3 dimensional field, in addition to the velocity at which the mandible moves. |
4) T-scan
Computerized bite analysis
|
|
T-scan Computerized bite analysis allows us to observe
and record the forces of chewing and the timing at
which they occur. |
